Most of my jewellery is made of sterling silver. This is often identified as .925 because it contains 92.5% of pure silver and 7.5% copper. As pure silver is very soft, it is alloyed with copper to give it strength so it can withstand everyday wear. Copper however reacts with oxygen and therefore sterling silver is liable to tarnish. It's a common misconception that tarnish means that the jewellery isn't real silver - tarnish is normal and reversible.
All of the silver you see in my jewellery is sterling silver with the exception of bezels (the surround used to hold stones or sea glass); this is fine silver which has a purity of 99.9%. I do not use plated silver or unknown alloys.
My "flame painted" earrings are made from copper. The colours you see have been created by repeated heating and cooling and they react with the light, making it appear slightly different from different angles. Please be aware that, depending on your device and screen settings, the colours of these earrings could appear different to how they look in real life. I take all of my photos in daylight and do not edit the colours.
The sea glass I use has been found on the shores of Carlingford Lough unless stated otherwise in a specific listing.
The best way to keep your jewellery tarnish free is to wear it! When it's worn directly on your skin, it naturally gets polished everytime you move! Earrings are the exception to this as they usually aren't touching your skin.
To prevent tarnish, polish your silver jewellery with a silver polishing cloth. Please do not use anything abrasive.
When not being worn, your jewellery is best protected from the air and moisture, ideally in an airtight container.
Please remove jewellery before using toiletries, hot tubs, cleaning products or gym equipment!
A soft toothbrush and soapy water is the best way to clean your jewellery - especially sea glass pieces will surprise you by looking brand new when cleaned this way!
If your jewellery has a patina (flame painting falls into this category), please don't use any friction as this can remove the patina.
